Coonawarra, one of Australias premier wine growing regions famed for its combination of limestone and Terra Rossa soils and the age worthy red wines it produces. The Coonawarra GI is a long narrow region, affectionately dubbed the squashed cigar, located on the Limestone Coast in south eastern South Australia. It is a cool climate region, characterised by a long and mild growing season producing medium to full bodied red wines, predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz both of which have the ability to age ten to twenty years in the right conditions.
